Nicole D. If I'm rereading a book I tin mind to music if it'due south a new volume I take to have tranquility.

Aerykah Admittedly no classical music while reading! But I practice usually have my radio or ipod on.

message 3: by Danna (new)

Danna I tried reading with instrumental or classical pieces, just this is not for me. I am a music junkie so I am easily distracted, stops and listens to the music. Merely then the words I read are hands forgotten...

Hannah Ward I mind to Il Divo when I'm reading, and since I read way too much than what is adept for me, I'm obsessed with them (especially Urs)

Mark I listened to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack while reading I Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and it's created some interesting mental linkages between those 2 things. Typically, I try not to exist listening to other stuff while reading.

Nicole Woods I think it honestly depends on the type of music & the person reading the book (& the type of book).

For me, personally, Classical Music, Traditional Chinese Music, & Gregorian chants always keep me calm & focused.

Then, other times, I'm fine with listening to Techno, a flake of Rock/Metal, or perchance some popular.

The only thing that I never mind to when reading is Rap (which I rarely listen to to begin with). It distracts me also much.

....And however, ironically, at times I notice myself trying to read something while listening to Screamo & the like. :P

Contessa Nonlyrical or I will always offset singing forth!

Kadi I can't listen to music while reading, it's then distracting. I tin listen to a rails of 'white racket' though, which helps, as information technology blocks out all other noisy distractions so that I tin focus on my reading a lot more.

Gillian i would terminate reading and heed to the music instead if i heed to music while reading SO DISTRACTED

mlady_rebecca I tin listen to instrumental only music while reading, only I tend to prefer silence or white noise (like a fan).

Kim It'southward got to be classical or big band instrumental.

message 12: past Katie (new)

Katie usually i can listen to music while im reading and i practise it very often(especially classical) but if its a talk show or music i dislike i cant concentrate.

message xiii: by Katy (new)

Katy Virtually of the time I enjoy having music in the groundwork, but if information technology is something I particularly like, I'll have to pause and rock out for awhile, and then sometimes the lark, information technology comes...

Harold If I like the music I will listen to it and lose track of what I'm reading. If I don't similar it I'll be too annoyed to read. Ane style or the other I can't do it.

message 15: past Marc A. (concluding edited Jan 10, 2013 01:45PM) (new)

Marc A. I read somewhere that, for some people, listening to music while reading helps to increase their concentration. Apparently, I'm one of those. However, generally for reading, I do better with jazz or classical rather than music with lyrics which can often exist distracting (specially if I am familiar with the songs). BTW, I find nice positive in the fact that, if a piece or section of music breaks into my conciousness while reading, it is frequently a strong indicator that this is music I will really like when I turn my full attention to it at a later on time.

Adewale It increases my level of concentration at all time

Ilaria ♡ I love listening to piano music, it's so soothing while reading (:

message 18: by Amie (new)

Amie I would just be as well distracted by the music to get lost in the volume. Its similar reading with the T.V on in the background.

message xix: by Katy (new)

Katy Amie wrote: "I would just be also distracted past the music to get lost in the volume. Its like reading with the T.V on in the background."

Ah, I used to always read with the Boob tube on. Maybe it's an acquired skill?

message 20: past Amie (new)

Amie Katy wrote: "Amie wrote: "I would merely exist too distracted by the music to become lost in the book. Its like reading with the T.5 on in the background."

Ah, I used to ever read with the Boob tube on. Peradventure information technology'south an acqui..."

Haha, I think so. I could never do that! I would probably end up watching the t.v

Lostshadows I concentrate better with music. It helps me ignore background noise that I practise observe distracting, such as people talking.

Way doesn't seem to make a deviation, as long as I'm the one who picked it.

EmilyViolet I can ignore any noise around me while reading, including music. I get to my ain footling world! :)

bulletin 23: by Paige (new)

Paige If I listen to music while reading, it has to be the same song repeating over and over.

Christi If the music has something to practice with what I'm reading, and then no, information technology'due south not distracting.

message 25: past Minh (new)

Minh Vu im easy to get distracted so no music, no Telly and no people around when im reading :)

message 26: by Dilla (new)

Dilla Nanditya Sometimes I could even forget that I was listening to music while I'm reading. I just focus on the book

Emi If it has lyrics in a language i understand then yes, it is very distracting. Even if i'thou reading the best volume ever for the fifth time.

Rachel Sometimes I purposely turn on the music! :)

message 29: past Anna (last edited Aug 02, 2013 09:45AM) (new)

Anna Murray If there is talking going on around me while I'm trying to read, I can't focus. So I volition put in my earbuds and put on some mellow jazz or classical which helps. Music while I read is nice and so long as at that place are no lyrics. Songza'due south "Jazz for Reading" playlist is a personal favorite.

Flávia I voted for "it depends on the type of music", but more often than not I find myself having to stop the music because I can't concentrate on my volume.

message 31: by Yvens (new)

Yvens Serpa i tin read to any instrumental music, but i ever got distracted when at that place'due south whatever kind of singing.

Flávia Yep, indeed. Sometimes I like to heed to soundtracks while reading. I tried that with lotr's soundtrack, while reading the commencement book, it was really squeamish.

message 33: past Elke (new)

Elke Sisco I think it depends on the music, and besides on the volume. As far as the music goes, I constitute a fascinating tool recently, information technology'southward called Focus at Volition. The founders have done scientific research on what helps people focus, and constitute that specific types of music help most people (I call back they say ii out of 3) focus on a task. If you observe this every bit interesting as I did, take a expect at https://www.focusatwill.com/
I'm not affiliated, only a fan; been using this at work regularly.

message 34: by Niamh (new)

Niamh De I oasis't listened to music much while i'yard reading a book but i have done it with some books (graceling, burn down, bitterblue and the final empire). And i establish out that whenever i hear that same song it reminds me of the books i read and what moment it was that i heard the song. But it as well depends on what music you're listening to.

Alivia I ever listen to music while I read and and so I start associating certain music with different books. For instance, a couple of years ago when I was reading the The Lovely Bones I was also obsessed with the song set fire to the rain. Then, whenever I hear that vocal now I think of that book. It has never distracted me in fact information technology helps me non become headaches in the car while reading. Maybe I'm simply weird...

Kimberly Bakker I do mostly listen to music when I read. Sometimes you get in this moment where the music just fits perfect with the volume that you're reading (:

message 37: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Depends on the kind of book.

CA i tin hear any kind of music but while i read i cant hear people talking! is and then distractive

message 39: by Elmo (new)

Elmo Vicki Rookwood I tin only listen to music whilst reading if information technology has no lyrics, or is in a language that i don't recognize whatsoever words at all to. I find it helps block out other people talking or groundwork noise like tv'due south or radio that other family members may be listening to.

bulletin 40: past Robin (new)

Robin Think you have to be a auditive learner somewhat to bask reading while listening to music. Might put you in the right spirit and raise the experience.

I'm fairly visual myself so i don't desire any distractions.
But I've been wanting to try out, anyone got whatever good songs/playlists? Pinkish floyd maybe?

『Hailey』 I always read with instrumental music on. Most of the instrumental music I have are movie scores and so sometimes I get striking with "feels" considering I would remember a part from another book where I read with this score lol...but I love reading with music. They really help the mood.

message 42: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Smith Music can exist a great back drop to a theme, specially while reading. Instrumental is peachy!

message 43: past Peter (new)

Peter Pan I'chiliad fine with whatever kind of music on, but in one case My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Male child comes on, I have to end reading to sing :) or dance... :P

Orlaith It depends on the music. Normally it doesn't carp me likewise much - I can read while my partner watches TV, for example, but if it's music that I love I can experience myself beingness pulled out of the book, whereas normally when I read there could be a gang of dancing hippos in the room and I wouldn't exist aware of them.

message 45: by Brad (new)

Brad Weisman It depends on what music yous heed to. I normally listen to Khachaturian, Lalo, Sibelius, Suk, and the like, but they tend to be too distracting. I generally listen to some calm Debussy or Bach partitas and sonatas

Charley I heed to music and so I can ignore everything else around me. Ordinarily I tune out the music.

bulletin 47: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Any volume, any music...put together. That works fine for me!
